Motorola Xoom 2 & small Xoom 2 Media Edition Official UK Unveiling; Pics + Video

Motorola’s Xoom 2 and its smaller version the Xoom 2 Media Edition got an official UK unvealing. More and more pictures leak and now we also see a retailer claiming to know the launch price. According to Clove (UK retailer), the Xoom 2 will be available for £325 and the Media Edition will be £299, both before taxes. These prices are for the wifi-only models. That’s $520 for the big fella and and $477 for the small brother. On top of that add value tax and those prices jump to $624 and $572. Which might sound kind of high in US-Dollar but in the UK the price is in line with the current competition. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (£399) etc.

Speaking competition. We already saw different ads from our European friends, for example the Carphone Warhouse ad which promotes the new Xoom 2 Media Edition for “just” €399 (still about $550).

We think the Xoom 2 and Xoom Media Edition will be available in the US also with a competitive price-tag.

Surprisingly will both slates NOT ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Instead chose Motorola to go with Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Some might be disappointed. We think an Android 4.0 update should follow via OTA soon. You will also NOT find a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor running this baby. Instead Motrola chose to go with a new 1.2Ghz dual-core OMAP processor. That’s probably simply because there is no Tegra 2 version with a clock speed of 1Ghz+.  The Tegra 3 will do, the first tablet to have that “beast” running and will be the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime also scheduled for November (9th).
