Android Gingerbread Coming to Intel Atom E Processors

Intel is currently looking to get into the Android market. After long neglecting the market Intel is working on a custom version of Android for Atom E series processors that is likely to come out next year. To date Intel is behind in the mobile market largely due to the fact that its mobile chips consume more power than competitors chips and are more expensive.

Intel’s goal is for an open source version of Gingerbread to run with its E series chips which will be used by tablet manufacturers inside a tablet or other mobile device. This customized version would maximize battery life and companies could use the Atom processor on an Android version.

Developing the E processor would be great for Intel sells due to the popularity of Android. To learn more about Intel’s work with Android watch the video below.
