At the international motor show (IAA) 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany we saw the Blackberry Playbook being integrated beautiful into the Renault Frenzy, a concept car designed by the french/canadian colaboration. Now at CES 2012 we can see Porsche take smiliar approaches with a cencepts car which integratets the QNX CAR (Connected Automotive Reference) platform even deeper. A tweaked version which supposedly includes already some features of the upcoming CAR 2 platform.

Note there are two more PlayBooks in back to complete the multi-nodal entertainment system. Media can be pushed or pulled from any of the PlayBooks which are networked over Ethernet. There is a NFC chip hidden under the head unit, which allows easy device pairing. Pretty sweet. But there is much more. Think of the possibilities… you will have text-to-speech capabilities for SMS, email, and BBM. And this is where it’s just starting. I’d say: “Call some devs! We need some apps!” This field definitely has a lot of potential, I am curios to see how long RIM can stay the ringleader and how long it takes until we see Apple or Google Car.

Check out the video after the break to see the QNX CAR concept vision.
