Avid Studio Video Editing App for the iPad Released

iMovies now has a strong competitor in the niche market. Just a few days after Apple released a major software update for its Final Cut Pro X video editing software for OS X, audio and video production company Avid released Avid Studio, its very own mobile video editing app for the iPad. Avid Studio is an application that allows professional-level video editing straight from your iPad. Essentially, Avid Studio lets you edit video files that are found in your Apple tablet or via the Camera Connection Kit. Video editing with Avid Studio gives you access to professional features such as integration of 3D animations, transitions, generic and soundtrack, titles, layers, transitions and effects, precise cutting, pan and zoom and picture in picture.

This mobile video editing app includes support for storyboard, a tool for editing with high precision “Precision Trimmer” and visual effects including fade out, fade in and dissolve. Avid Studio also allows direct publishing of the editing results on Facebook and YouTube, via email or export in Avid Studio PC suite. Unfortunately, based on feedback, the app had some problems running on the iPad 1. So in order to fully enjoy the unique experience and the benefits of Avid Studio, you will need to use it with an iPad 2. But for iPad 1 owners out there, according to the developers, the minor problem will be fixed soon. Avid Studio is probably the first video editing application that actually helps amateur video enthusiasts create and edit movies on the fly. Pros should find this app useful and powerful as well. The Avid Studio application can be downloaded at the iTunes App Store at a price of $ 4.99. After 30 days, the price will raise to $8.

Team Evolve Unboxes the Samsung Galaxy Note with a Twist

Samsung has already been known to spark frenzy, not just in its customer base, but in videos and ads as well. If you’ve seen Slashgear’s extreme unboxing of the Samsung Galaxy S II, then you know what I mean. But what you are about to see has got to be one of the best unboxing videos ever created. And it’s all about the Samsung Galaxy Note. Yes, the half-tablet, half-smartphone, 5.3-inch Super AMOLED device that is expected to take the market by storm. Well, it already has. But once it hits the U.S. this coming February 18, America will never be the same. Samsung already dissed Apple when it released highly controversial video commercials like both the “The Next Big Thing” and “Urban Camping” ads both for the Samsung Galaxy S II. So you can pretty much imagine what it will be like when the Note arrives.

Team Evolve was able to create an unboxing video of the Samsung Galaxy Note entitled “A Note to Remember”. And what’s even more interesting is that they used Lego blocks for the stop-motion clip. And the result? Check out the video below. We’ve got to say it’s professionally done. I would even mistake the unboxing as an official ad from Samsung if not for the title. The unboxing shows a tiny Lego man unboxing the large Note together with his sweetheart. The short clip ended with both lovers sitting on a Lego coach while watching movies using the device like a flat panel TV. New ASUS Tablet Spotted Overseas Hints New Transformer in the Works

With the latest Transformer tablet selling in the market like crazy, ASUS appears to be gearing up for another major release. The Taiwanese website NCCC reported that they were able to come across a familiar-looking tablet that has the code name TF300T on it. And that sparked the rumors of a next-generation ASUS tablet that, according to the site, will follow the footsteps of the recently introduced Transformer Prime. One of the snapshots that caught our attention was the QuieTek certification document that unveiled the TF300T code name and its 10.1-inch display size. Now if the Prime has the code name TF201 and the OG a TF101, then the TF300T code makes little sense. So far the leaked images only showed the tablet with its blood red color at the back.

Unfortunately, no further details and specs were found. Although ASUS hasn’t confirmed about this report yet, isn’t it too early for ASUS to introduce another tablet in such a short time? Judging from the photos, it’s pretty hard to spot any differences with the rest of its siblings. In fact, if not for the code name, we wouldn’t think of it as a successor. But maybe the reason for such an early release is just that ASUS has a lot of good stuff in store for us this year. Well, that’s even more exciting!

ZTE Optik Arrives in Sprint for Only $100

If you are not a loyal Apple fan and if you feel that any product should be judged by its productivity and not by its branding alone, then perhaps you will love this new tablet from ZTE. Last February 5, the ZTE Optik was officially launched via Sprint, and we found the slate to be pretty decent for the price tag. The 7-inch tablet is priced at a modest price tag of $100 with a two-year contract and $350 for just the device alone. The ZTE Optik features a 7-inch capacitive touch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution and pinch-to-zoom functionality. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm® Snapdragon® processor and it includes a 1 GB RAM and a 16 GB storage. Unfortunately, as far as we know, the Optik will only be running Android 3.2, Honeycomb. We’re not really sure if Android 4.0 will be coming to the device soon. Nevertheless, the ZTE Optik is specifically designed to serve as an e-reader, a media player and a portable computing device, like most tablets.

Unlike the iPad, the ZTE Optik comes with Adobe support, which means that you can surf the web as long as want and play games and watch those videos just like you do on your laptop or personal computer. The device also comes with two cameras – a 5 Megapixel rear-facing camera and 2 Megapixel camera, perfect for video calling. Other features like Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and expandable MMC slots are also included.
As a side note, this is actually Sprint’s first tablet that was launched with a $100 pricing. Hence, given the amount of money that this device is worth, you may have to compromise a little bit. For instance, if you are buying the tablet on contract, you will have to mandatorily sign a two-year contract, choose an appropriate data plan and endure the lock-in period until it expires. But that completely depends on you. However, if you are planning to buy a tablet PC under a tight budget, then the ZTE Optik is an answered prayer.

Dell to Launch New Tablet in Q4, Could Run Windows 8 or Android

In spite of the tight and tough tablet niche that has already silenced HP last year, Dell has just laid out its plan to launch its flagship consumer tablet computer for this year. Now it is important to note that Dell has already released one tablet in the market – the Dell Streak. And it was doing little to elevate the company into the likes of Apple – which is the ultimate goal of every device manufacturer nowadays. But Michael Dell and his team are resilient. According to Reuters, Dell has been waiting for the right time to re-enter once again into the tablet niche, citing this year as the perfect time to release its next-generation tablet. Steve Felice, Dell’s Chief Commercial Officer said, “We have been taking our time. The general failure of everyone that’s tried to introduce a tablet outside of Apple suggested Dell made a prudent choice. You will see us enter this market in a bigger way toward the end of the year. So we are not really deemphasizing it, we are really being very careful how we enter it.”

So far little has been known about the tablet’s specs although Dell’s roadmap showed them to be using both Windows 8 and Android in their labs. Felice added, “There hasn’t been a lot of advancement and it’s given Microsoft a good window to come into the market with Windows 8. I like the touch Windows 8 feature. We like Windows 8 but we continue to develop with Android as well. We are still going to be more choice-driven, based on the feedback we get from customers.”

OnLive Stream Games Coming to Google TV

It is confirmed! At the CES last week, Google has officially announced the arrival of OnLive cloud gaming to its own Google TV devices. Now you can have the latest high-performance video games straight from your Google TV like movies. Isn’t that amazing? But apparently, you can only watch ongoing games for the meantime and use other social features via the OnLive Viewer app. So don’t get too excited yet. So far there are no reports of its official date of release. According to Google, they are working closely with the OnLive team to finalize the full gameplay so that Google TV users can now play with the other OnLive gamers from around the world. On the hand, Vizio, the U.S. based consumer electronics company, also showcased its first ever line of Smart TVs that are fully integrated with Google TV 2.0 and equipped with OnLive functionality as well.

Google Maps for Android Gets Updated with Location Improvements and Improved Battery Life

To those who bear witness to the unbelievable battery life-sucking capabilities of Google Maps – particularly the location tracking feature within Google Latitude, fret no more because Google has just updated its Google Maps for Android devices. At the height of the frenzy at the CES, Google has launched a major update to Google Maps including indoor maps and floor plans. Still currently in beta, the floor plan functionality has a bit of a problem when it comes to submitting data concerning non-public buildings and residences. But it won’t be long before Google will launch the full version of the update. Additional notable features include improved battery life and performance for “Latitude and Location History” users, Transit Navigation (still in Beta) for using the vehicle speed to estimate locations, a report feedback to Google feature via the settings menu and increased route options.

Moto Bluetooth Smart Controller Now Available for $99

Last year, Motorola showcased the Droid RAZR together with a bunch of accessories including a very interesting Bluetooth wireless pointing device called Smart Controller. What’s cool about this accessory is that it can also function as a handset and can receive and make phone calls as well via a call button located at the backside. And not only that, the Bluetooth remote control can also work with other Motorola tablets in the market. At the CES, Motorola made a demo of the Smart Controller as it was tethered to a Droid Xyboard 8.2 tablet. The folks over at Engadget took advantage of the situation and played with it for a while. And they were quite amazed at the responsiveness of the Smart Controller.

Using its standard four navigational buttons and the dedicated trackpad, manipulating the Xyboard tablet was surprisingly easy. The Smart Controller also features pinch to zoom technology. Intel Flaunts Windows 8 Tablet Running 32nm Clover Trail S

Rumors of Intel’s Medfield-powered device have been temporarily silenced at the CES. During Intel’s keynote at the CES, the billion dollar American electronics corporation showed us something very interesting. What you are seeing now is a tablet running the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system. According to an Intel representative, the tablet is not medfield-powered; instead it is fully operated by Clover Trail – a 32 nanometer chipset processor that is expected to crush the reign of ARM-based tablets. Unfortunately, Intel didn’t discuss any further details about the hybrid tablet. But the folks over at The Verge managed to scan the device and found it to be sporting a single USB port, a SIM card slot, an SD card slot and 1 10-pin style connector at the bottom.
