No one likes a courtroom, and it looks like Apple and Samsung are headed in the opposite direction, check out our earlier post to read about their legal issues. On a recent trip to the Technology Continent of the world, more specifically South Korea, Apple COO (Chief Operating Officer) Tim Cook allegedly put some money on the table for Samsung’s AMOLED display technology for tablet PCs.

With the iPad2 already in the hands of many “Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad2, considered…the iPad3…launched toward the end of this year,” an anonymous source told The Korea Herald. If Apple does indeed use AMOLED displays, they will be in a class all alone, some would argue they already are. Samsung doesn’t even use AMOLED displays for its tablet PC, the Galaxy Tab, right now its only used in their Galaxy s2 smartphone.

Apple for the time being uses liquid crystal displays in its iPad lineup, including the iPad2 it launched in March 2011. Samsung denies any deals made with Apple and their COO Mr. Cook. Deciding what to believe is left up to instinct, past concerns of AMOLED not being compatible with tablet PCs have been resolved so opportunity remains. But the benefits of AMOLED technology don’t lie: brighter screens, less sunlight reflection and reduced power consumption. So where would that leave LG, the supplier of Apple’s with the iPad displays? LG is Samsung’s main competitor and the two companies could be both be aiming at the iPad3. Some believe LG might try to hold Apple’s attention by adding a new display assembly line at its Gumi plant  to keep up with the fast-selling iPad 2.Only time will tell if LG keeps making iPad displays or will the Samsung ‘rumor’ reign true.
