For those developers out there that could not attend the Build conference in Anaheim you can now download a preview of Windows 8. The purpose behind the release is to encourage developers to develop apps for use with the new Ul. You can get the preview in 32 and 64 bit versions which run on x86 machines. Some of the key features from Build will not be accessible like the Windows Store app. Microsoft hopes that users don’t spend much time on Ul and rather focus on Metro Ul as the new face of Windows 8.

It is sad to say but we won’t be able to get Windows 8 on the HP Touch Pad yet since Microsoft has not made an ARM-compatible version available. So it won’t be joining webOS and Android on your HP TouchPad tablet.

Additionally Windows 7 can’t be upgraded to Windows 8. You will need to perform a clean install. Therefore make sure you have everything backed up if you want to install Windows 8 Developer Preview on your machine.
