At the Dreamforce 2011 keynote we learned that Eric Schmidt disdains the nickname Ice Cream Sandwich for ICS. During his address he reiterated to no one’s surprise that it will be out in October or November. Watch the video yourself to get a feel for Schmidt’s take on the name Ice Cream Sandwich given to ICS.
We are in agreement that Ice Cream Sandwich is a pretty funky name for ICS. Froyo the same of a prior operating system was good for a writer, Gingerbread sounds like your having a Christmas snack but Ice Cream Sandwich just doesn’t sound like a name for an operating system.
Here is Schmidt’s take on the the name:
“We have a new operating system, internally known as ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ for some reason, which is being released in October-November, which everybody is very excited about.”
Either way no matter how you try to slice and dice it, Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to arrive sometime in October or November. We will just have to wait and see.
